At Hazlehurst Primary School, we aim to teach science in a way that embeds the importance of science in everyday life, in an engaging and exciting way. In line with the expectations of the National Curriculum, we aim to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific areas of chemistry, biology and physics. We aim to deliver an enquiry rich curriculum using the Learning Challenge Curriculum, where working scientifically through observation, investigation and experimentation are as much a focus as knowledge and vocabulary. We aim to link science to other subjects, including design technology and maths through a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) approach. We aim to use STEM to expand children’s understanding of the world, the importance of science in solving real world problems and their curiosity about the world around them.
