What have we been up to in Summer 1?
We had a visit from Circus Sensible! We watched a show and took part in a workshop!
The children had a great, story themed Outdoor Classroom Day yesterday. We read The Cave and tried to build some caves of our own in the den building area. We read Oliver’s vegetables and planted some vegetable seeds. We read Growing Frogs and went pond dipping. Finally we read We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and did a bare foot sensory walk!
Take a look at some of our writing. We have been making a shopping list for The Hungry Caterpillar!
Miss Corrigan very kindly brought in two of her chicks for the children to meet. We all got to stroke the chicks. The children asked some great questions, and we found out that they still have their baby feathers, however soon they will gain flying feathers!
Take a look at what reception have been up to this week, and check out some home learning to try!
What have we been up to in Spring 2?
Reception had an Easter egg hunt today. They found 3 eggs each and had a challenge to fine one of 4 golden eggs!
As part of art and DT week, we have been learning to weave and sew! The only help I gave was to thread the needle and to sew on the buttons, as I needed to use a grown up needle! Get job everyone
Children earned their class reward and for our treat we had a Teddy Bear's Picnic!
Reception have had a sewing table added to provision this week. We were learning about how the needle needs to go over and under - the children were sewing superstars!
What have we been up to in Spring 1?
Reception celebrated Chinese New Year this week! We learned about the traditions of the celebration, made dragons and set up a Chinese restaurant. We looked at how it is the year of the tiger and made some tigers too! Some of us wrote some numbers in Mandarin and made Duplo dragons and made fireworks in messy foam! We finished off by trying some Chinese snacks, prawn crackers, wontons and spring rolls.
Reception have been learning how to breath properly in our Mindfulness sessions. We have to smell the flower when breathing in and blow the windmill when breathing out!
Reception have been reading different stories. We have been learning about the characters, settings and story order of traditional tales. We have read The 3 little pigs, The 3 Billy Goats Gruff and The Gingerbread Man so far!
We have been learning about capacity this week! We talked about 'full' 'part full' and 'empty'. We were able to show our understanding of this in our water tray where we were playing potions and science experiments!
What have we been up to in Autumn 2?
Reception did so well in their first ever Christmas Nativity - Well done!
Reception have been braving the weather and have had great fun at Forest School!
We had a problem to solve in our water area today, the sea animals had no water! We had to transport the water from the water tray to the sea animals, using a water track! There was lots of problem solving, persistence and wonderful team work! We solved many problems, such a leaks and getting the bubbles out of the way. We were very excited when it finally worked!
We loved our Outdoor Classroom Day! We made cheese and toast on the campfire, built dens, played in the mud kitchen and did a blindfolded obstacle course!
